Respected climate change leaders form new Clean Economy Expert Panel
Mick de Brenni
Minister for Energy and Clean Economy Jobs at Queensland Government
Queensland is making significant strides in its journey towards decarbonisation, setting the stage for a sustainable and prosperous future.
We've already committed to transforming our energy sector as outlined in the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan - a cornerstone of the Miles Government’s vision for a cleaner, greener Queensland.
However, energy is just one part of a larger story.
In order to meet our recently legislated target of 75% emissions reduction by 2035, other sectors of the economy need to be given the same treatment as our energy system.
To achieve this ambitious goal, expert advice and strategic guidance are crucial.
The Miles Government recognises the importance of having a team of specialists who can provide insights into the most effective ways to implement decarbonisation plans across various sectors.
This led to the formation of the Clean Economy Expert Panel, a group of esteemed professionals who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.
A respected leader in policy and economics of climate change, Professor Frank Jotzo , will chair the panel, which includes esteemed experts and leaders in climate change economics, agriculture, the resources sector, regional economic development and the built environment.
“A low-emissions economy will bring opportunities for lasting prosperity. Ambitious emissions targets open the gate, then comes the journey of making it happen. Queensland has huge potential for investment in the clean economy of the future. Not only in energy but in industry, resources, agriculture and transport" - Professor Frank Jotzo
The Panel’s advice will be critical for the government as it works with key industry stakeholders and communities to develop sectoral decarbonisation plans to create new jobs and economic opportunities for Queenslanders. ?

Queensland Decarbonised Future
Decarbonising Queensland is one of the most significant commitments our state has ever made.
Recent independent modelling by Deloitte reveals the transition presents Queensland with a $430 billion economic opportunity and 145,000 new jobs in 2050.
This panel demonstrates our commitment to net zero for a better and cleaner Queensland.
With their expert advice, Queensland will continue to power ahead towards our key emissions reduction targets outlined in the Clean Economy Jobs Act.
We're continue to attract global investment from decarbonising trade partners, ensure new and existing industries are not left behind, and welcome the dawn of a new era in mining, manufacturing, transport and electricity generation.
The best is yet to come, and the Sunshine State is just getting started.

1 个月Persnally I believe 75 by 35 is an achievable but not a strech target and would prefer a second goal of 75 by 30. I am also iterested in the diversity and teamwork of the group to ensure it is a high performance team. I would also add a conservationists/ ecologist, Ocean energy expert and youth to the panel for a bigger picture.
