II’m honoured to have been engaged by the Department of Premier and Cabinet NSW to deliver Respect at Work training for Ministers and their staff as a key recommendation of the?Goward Review.

The training aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the legal obligations of Ministers and Chiefs of Staff regarding workplace misconduct and their role in culture change.
  • Promote understanding of what constitutes bullying, harassment, and sexual misconduct and how to manage a complaint under the new Respectful Workplaces Policy recently endorsed by the Premier
  • Transfer knowledge and skills for prevention and early intervention
  • Develop an understanding of formal and informal grievance processes.
  • Engage Ministers and Chiefs of Staff in cultural and behavioural changes

Workplace equality in all areas makes Australia a better more productive place for everyone. That is the Australia I want to live and work in. We still have a long way to go in so many areas but there has been progress. When I started my career in science if I had mentioned that I had a neurodiverse diagnosis I don't think that I would ever been as successful in getting my first research appointment let alone staying in science for almost 20 years. It just wasn't something that you could talk about back then. There is still a lot of education and understanding to be built on but I don't feel as much as though a disability is an unmentionable these days. In my opinion a country, business or government is measured by how well they understand and care for the needs of their most marginalised or vulnerable employees and customers.
