Respect, how does it work?

On Wednesday I attended the Global Offshore Wind exhibition in London for two days. Unfortunately running for a taxi from the ExCel Centre on Wednesday evening to get to my hotel I dropped my wallet with all my money and credit cards, not panicking yet as I am not aware. On arriving at my hotel the horror struck home, sxxt, what do I do now. The taxi driver seeing the panic said, "listen mate if you ain't got no money forget it"

I explained to the hotel owner what had just happened, he said, "Sir, pay me when you can" he then took a wad of money out of his pocket and said how much do you need to borrow for this evening, I respectfully declined the amazing offer. I called an ex colleague now working for Tekmar, the CEO paid for my evening meal and a few beers, sorted the taxi each way and made it clear that I will join them on Thursday in a taxi back to Euston.

Arriving at Preston Station my car is in the car park with a ticket I cannot pay for. The man on the other end of the ticket machine said please drive to the barrier and I will take your details. I got there, he opened the barrier and said have a nice evening, wow.

Driving home and this morning it left my thinking, respect to business people, each one helping an individual in times of panic. One big factor did strike me, during the unbelievable help I received it came from people of different nationalities, cultures and beliefs, all with the same objective, to simply help when it was needed.

What a great country.
