Respect Earned v/s Demanded and Commanded

In our life we meet people who may or may not be having big designations, positions of authority or educational qualifications; but we still respect and honour those people from the core of our heart.The reason why we do so is because of the number of reasons, primarily their positive approach and attitude toward us particularly and society in general.

On the other hand, there are people who are having big titles ,designations ,degrees , credentials but still in our heart we do not like and respect them; although on a worldly outward basis we may be showing them respect but that respect is primarily a societal prerequisite and that is not an emotion or feeling from our heart.

Respect earned due to humility ,good behavior , empathy ,integrity, helping attitude and trust is permanent whereas Respect commanded, and demanded solely on the basis of Authority , Power , Fear and Position is temporary with no foundations in the heart.

Respect earned due to traits mentioned first leave their permanent impressions just like water drops leave their marks on big stones ; on the other hand Respect commanded due to second set of factors is like building Castles on a sand beach as soon as strong wind passes by ; the castle disappears and withers away.

If we understand and acknowledge that what we are having is important only for us and has nothing to do with other people until and unless we develop a habit of sharing with other people and trying to contribute positively; only then we will be able to earn the respect from other people.

Be humane ; be approachable and try to earn respect instead of commanding and demanding it.
