Respect the Challenge.

Respect the Challenge.

Convenience is king in the world today. Thanks to mobile devices, we’ve got instant gratification at our fingertips. With one quick Google search, we can answer any out-there question in less than 0.7 seconds. With just a couple of clicks, we can have Amazon deliver almost anything on our doorstep tomorrow. And although this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s beginning to feel like a good challenge isn’t as respected (or desired) as in times past. We’ve got it in our heads that life is supposed to come easily. But where is the fun in always getting what you want, when you want it?

As we continue to progress as a society, it’s easy to forget how hard the generations before us worked to achieve success. Our grandparents worked their asses off all day to put food on the table. Now, we can literally push three buttons and have food delivered in thirty minutes. I recently watched a video where Mark Manson, author of “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck,” said, "slightly dissatisfied is the adversity that we overcome that allows us to appreciate the win. Psychology calls it the hedonic treadmill.” In other words, when shit is easy, we’re not able to learn and progress.

I always tell myself and others that the journey is better than the destination. Every step along the way, every challenge and roadblock, makes life that much more interesting. There is always more waiting for us at the top of the mountain, and the climb is longer than we think.

Let’s start to challenge ourselves more and raise the bar on our expectations. Personally, I crave a good challenge.

So what do you think? Are you ready to respect the challenge? Are you ready to go for it? Hell yeah! Climb that mountain, and don’t stop until you reach the very top.
