Resources Unlock Employee Success

Resources Unlock Employee Success

Organizations in the current marketplace are finding that thriving means investing. Investing in your organization isn’t a new concept, but the placement of investments have shifted. Historically the focus was on tangible work results and the physical environment of the workplace. While this is important, there are new factors that are reshaping how organizations are equipping themselves to succeed. The key is employee success.

According to a study conducted by Mind Edge and human resource accreditor HRCI, “80 percent of HR professionals reported increased staff burnout during the pandemic”, with 38 percent of respondents saying their organizations “have not taken any steps to address the burnout issue”. Knowing what we do about decreased productivity in stressful work environments, it’s fair to surmise that organizations with minimal mental wellness investments are not receiving the output or retention that they need in order to thrive.

The starting point for employee success, happiness and productivity starts with mental well-being. Organizations that understand that mental wellness is a necessary component in a healthy work environment are investing in quality mental health resources. This nurtures an environment where teams are productive, dedicated and healthy – mentally and physically

Productivity Powered by Health

Teams require dedication in order to work to their full capacity. When the state of the world and personal issues cloud the mind, team members may become distracted, distant, and easily overwhelmed. It can be difficult to assist a team in this state, especially as work continues to multiply and solutions become less navigable.

Members who have an outlet are more likely to release their stress and focus on their assignments without distraction knowing that support is available to them. Utilization varies by audiences, but impact is universal as members?know that support is available when they are in need. The gratification of knowing their organization has invested in resources acquired solely for their mental wellbeing creates a foundation for trust and productivity. Like a backup battery charged in preparation for a storm, members can rest assured that if they are in need, help is just a call away.

Secure and Steady

Times of uncertainty cause employees to reevaluate many aspects of their professional lives. When an employee can choose from multiple, similar jobs in the market, the deciding factor can be the quality of their current position’s benefits and resources.

Retention can be a huge drain on a company’s precious time and resources. The Center for American Progress reported last year that “It can cost as much as 213% of an employee’s salary to get a suitable replacement for an employee who leaves”. And that number doesn’t factor in the weeks of slowed production a new employee outputs as they acclimatize themselves to their new position.

Incentivizing a quality member to stay with the organization can be as simple as providing personal support to them whenever necessary. Organizations with high retention rates are often the same ones that have health minded team leaders that put mental health at the forefront of their member relations because they know that happy members produce consistent, valuable work!

Healthy Means Whole-Body Health

Mental health and physical health go hand in hand when discussing health care costs. Stress makes people sick, both mentally and physically, especially when it goes unaddressed.

The CDC reports that employees who have a high risk of depression had “the highest health care costs during the 3 years after an initial health risk assessment.”

The cost of healthcare for employees decreases when they are not suffering from stress symptoms like fatigue, headaches, nausea and heart problems. The health benefits of talking to a trained Listener alleviates many stress impacts as it gives individuals dedicated time to speak on their frustrations and let them go in a healthy and controlled environment.

This process is called “venting”. Leon F. Seltzer Ph.D states in an article for Psychology Today that “venting your frustrations alleviates tension and stress. You almost always feel better—and “lighter”—after sharing some perceived threat, indignity, misfortune, or injustice”. Individuals who take advantage of this outlet need less medical attention surrounding stress factors and companies benefit from this by reducing health care costs and have a workforce that is thriving.

Investments That Just Make Sense

With each investment into employee mental wellbeing, another step is taken in the direction of productivity, happiness and success. Quality resources support quality work, increased morale, and a compassionate work environment.

When organizations make the move to support members through the lens of whole-body well-being the opportunities are endless.
