Resources and support for those with spinal cord injuries or disorders

Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals’ CARF-accredited spinal cord injury program is designed to help children and adults return to their life roles. They offer an abundant list of resources for both local and regional patients to receive the help and support necessary to learn and return to independence. See the list below for many of those resources available.?

Madonna Inpatient Support

Our staff is specially trained to treat those who have sustained a spinal cord injury. We have a space dedicated for individuals recovering from spinal cord injuries and disorders, staying among those with similar diagnosis. The Program Medical Director and Rehabilitation Counselor both have clinical expertise and are individuals living with a spinal cord injury themselves.

Spinal Cord Injury Support Group

Madonna offers a support and educational group as part of the spinal cord injury program. The group meets monthly, both in-person and virtually. For meeting times, contact Diane Ulmer at 402.413.3185.

Peer Support

Madonna’s Peer Volunteer Program matches those who have completed rehabilitation with those who are just starting their recovery journey, for the purpose of listening, sharing meaningful life experience and providing hope for the future. Adolescents, who completed rehab, or parents of adolescents, are also available as a peer volunteer. Peer volunteers can share information about the Madonna rehabilitation experience, answer questions about the day-to-day experience, and visit individually with a patient and/or a family member.

United Spinal Association of Nebraska

The mission of the United Spinal Association of Nebraska is to support those impacted by spinal cord injury/disorder (SCI/D) and all wheelchair users by creating a community that provides opportunities for advocacy, resources, education, mentoring and social gathering.

Nebraska AgrAbility

Nebraska AgrAbility aids farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural workers with disabilities, so that they, their families, and their communities continue to succeed in rural America.

Assistive Technology Partnership

The Assistive Technology Partnership (ATP) helps individuals locate and use assistive technology necessary for their situation. ATP offers equipment loan services and also provide funding and grants for home modifications to maximize independence.

Independent Living Center

Non-profit group that works to allow everyone to access and live independently in the community.? Services include advocate for rights, remove barriers, funding assistance, return to independent living, management of Nebraska Medicaid waiver program.?

Vocational Rehabilitation

Vocational Rehabilitation is an employment program for those who experience a disability. They provide services for the purpose of helping people prepare for, find or keep a job.
