Resources for self-leadership in uncertain times

Like so many others, I have spent the past 14 days practicing social isolation.
For me, the start of social distancing happened to coincide with falling ill with a (non-corona-related) infection and being unable to do much of anything for the better part of the week. When I recovered enough to be able to work again, everything around me had completely changed and I tried to adjust to this “new normal”.
Since then, I have been asking myself what I can contribute - how I can offer the skills and knowledge I have in service of the greater good in these crazy times. I don’t mean this in terms of “new business models”, but rather in terms of true solidarity and service. Because that’s what being #radicallyhuman means to me. Allowing it to sink in, that we are all in this together. We are all struggling and trying to navigate, as best we can, these unprecedented levels of uncertainty and anxiety. And I am happy to see many others chiming in on the importance of leading with purpose and humanity (this recent HBR article being just one example).
Today, I’d like to offer you, what I have come up with thus far. In effect, these are two complementary tools, both designed to support you in leading yourself through the current situation from a place of presence and resilience.
- The first is a self-practice. A template for your morning check-in, which I encourage you to try out in order to begin your day by connecting to your body, your resources and with a sense of joy.
- The second is an invitation to join me on Fridays at 1pm, for a weekly reflection session. This is a practice I have established and adapted over the last couple of months with my dear friend and co-creatress, Eva Bakardjiev. We have a short list of reflection questions designed to become aware of what you have achieved and what you have learned over the course of the last week, as well as setting an intention for the week to come. We will come together as a community via Zoom every Friday, to share these reflections and learn from the collective intelligence that emerges when we share our lived experiences with each other.
Both of these tools support you in building awareness for yourself and your work, which is the foundation for building skillful habits and, ultimately, a resilient system.
May these two resources serve you well.
And if there is any other way you feel I might be able to support you, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're in this together!

4 年Thanks for providing these tools, Fra! I will join next Friday’s reflection and try the self check-in, too. What I also do is keep track of my mood and energy level and major activities throughout the week in a very simple diary. This helps me to get a sense of progress and feel gratitude for what’s going well.

4 年Thanks for sharing this. I can confirm, that both strategies work for me very well as well. Im practicing these and a few additional rituals for quite some time now and I can see and feel a clear change from a place of distraction and confusion or even depression to a place of being, claritiy and resilience. I might join you on fridays! Cheers
