??Planning Equation
??If you are Managing Project or operation work you must aware of this equation which helps you to correlate Quantum of work and Required Man hours or Resource Planned units to execute that activity in defined duration.
??Equation
Budgeted Units = Budgeted Unit/Time * Duration
??Most of you guys start think that how to describe this equation so wait a moment let me take you in details step by step with easy approach.
?Budgeted Units: Planned Total Units or Total required Man-hours
?Budgeted Unit/Time: Planned Man hours per day
?Duration: Number of days defined
??Man-power: In case of manpower Budgeted Units means total number of hours.
??Material: I have activity “Reinforcement of Steel “and total quantity required for activity is 450 T then 450 T is Budgeted Units. So every consumable/material is always being measured or quantified in a certain unit so here we will consider quantification units.
??Machinery/Equipment: In case of Machinery, Budgeted Units means total number of hours required to complete work.
??In above equation you will always be given two values third you need to define as per equation logic
?Scenario-01: What if I plan to spend total 100 $ and 10$ per day is my plan then how many days it will take.
??Simply 10 Days (Duration)
?Scenario-02: Now I Plan 5 Days to spend total 200 $ then how many I need to spend on daily basis.
??Simply 40$ (Budgeted Unit/Time or Planned per Man hours)
??Scenario-03: This time what if I tell you that I plan to spend 3$ per day for 25 days then outcome will be 75$ (Budgeted Units/Planned Man hours).
?Same like above example What I have been told that I need to Compact 300,000 Sqm Area as per BOQ and that’s Total Quantum of work you have budgeted Units so if someone whisper in your ear that our Compaction Roller’s Productivity
??Productivity = 100 Sqm/Hour
??Working hours per day = 8 Hours
??Budgeted Unit/Time or Planned work per day = 800 Sqm/Day
??Now I guess you are in position to define your duration for activity.
?Summary
While linking your resources with activities you need to incorporate this logic in your work schedule to get accurate Work schedule and Critical Path. Preferably I will say this equation as Integration Equation between Scope Management and Resource Management and after this Integration out puts are Time management & Cost Management.
In my next post I will take you on journey to understand how to calculate Resource Productivity.
