[RESEARCH] A new study published in JAMA Network Open found that higher doses of buprenorphine significantly reduce hospitalizations and improve treatment retention for individuals with fentanyl addiction, prompting a re-evaluation of current federal dosing guidelines. A recent federal listening session further highlighted emerging evidence supporting higher doses (above 24 mg/day), noting reduced withdrawal symptoms, and fewer instances of illicit opioid use, while identifying barriers like stigma and restrictive insurance policies. Together, these findings underscore an urgent need for expanded research, provider education, and policy reform to improve access.
