Resolving conflicts

Resolving conflicts

I am writing my learnings through my real life experience.

Why conflicts arrive

Conflicts will arrive when the interest doesn't align . This interest could be in any form i.e. monetary, equity, opinion, control etc

How to resolve the conflicts

I think this is most important thing in business but these kind of situations will make you more mature, humble, and strong.

  1. Communication:

The first thing you should do is 'communicate'. Communication will help the other person to understand your point. It is very important that the communication should be in plain language, by plain language I mean it should be rational with no emotions and ego attached to it. You need to listen the other side as well. No matter how irrelevant and useless it is, but let them finish with their perspective. Don't waste your time to argue if you think the discussion is loosing it's path. Time is more important than the useless arguments. So give it cooling period.

2. Cooling period :

After the heated or normal communication you should give some time to the matter. This is called cooling period generally. We all humans have bunch of emotions and these emotions take time to comedown to their default mode. This timeline for cooling period could vary according to the conflict and depth of emotions. So keep patience and just wait without disturbing your mental peace.

3. Followup communication :

After this long episode you will be followed up, if not then you should followup. This time you will notice different perspective which would be more rational with less emotions attached to it. Your emotional intelligence (EQ) will play a lot of role here. (you can read about emotional intelligence here ). In this followup communication you'll be able to resolve most of it. Most of the conflicts get resolved this way, if not this way then legal proceedings.

Emotional intelligence is very important; it helps a lot in business; especially in the case of conflicts.

If you cannot control your emotions, intelligence is worthless, even dangerous.
