Solve For Your Lost New Year's Resolutions: The 3 BEST Secrets to Keep Your 2022 In Focus?

It is commonly known that the third week of any new year is a challenge for most people. The confetti of New Year's Eve has been swept up and the signs of the holidays have returned to the storage areas. You have selected a word, theme, or goal to focus your year on and with gusto jumped in. Then reality set in. If this feels familiar here are my two secrets to solve your re-solution stress.

Solve for WHY: Remember not what your word/goal is but the underlying why. Remember why you put that as your focus for the year. Was your goal to increase your sales this year - perhaps your why is to save up for the much-needed vacation. Was your word of the year "Success" - remember why you were ready to step up to new levels of success.

Solve for HOW: No matter what your word/goal is for 2022 the secret to making it a reality is keeping it on your calendar. This year I am swapping out "to do" list reactive planning for a time-blocking more forward-thinking way of planning the days, weeks, and year. Now 20 days in it is working. Have you put your word/goal on your calendar? Right now - go put the time in your life for your resolution. Look at this time like you would a doctor's appointment you wouldn't miss or cancel that do not miss your cancel your time for your resolution.

Solve for WHAT: Simon Sinek reminds us the most successful leaders flip the model of business on its head. Don't start with what. Start with why. Now that you have re-visited why and how pick 1 or 2 whats. What is one or two actions you will schedule in the direction of your word/goal? Most people lose their word/goal by now because they lost sight of the value of whatever it was they were trying to change. Perhaps this is you? It was easy on January 3rd (for many of us the first workday in 2022) to say you were going to delegate that task, create that sales campaign, develop a new hiring process. Whatever your resolution at work or home get clear about the what after the why and how. Post a direct message on this post and let me what 1 action are you scheduling now to get you to your why. And ultimately you will solve for your lost resolution.

How to Incorporate Mindfulness Into Your Workday

There are two key types of resistance when I tell people my life's work is educating, connecting, and inspiring people to be mindful (In business and work). The first resistance is: I don't have time and the second is I can't meditate.

You know it's true - we all have the same 24 hours in a day. You make time for the things that are critical to you. Your brain is your most vital organ. The good news about mindfulness is you take your brain with you everywhere and you don't need to go anywhere specific to be mindful. Mindfulness is not about the doing. Mindfulness at work is about the being. While you can add 15 minutes to your day to be mindful I take a different stance. Find one meeting/event already on your calendar and commit to being fully present there.

Next mindfulness does not require meditation (I can feel many of you breathing a bit of relief). To integrate mindfulness into your workday look for a way you enjoy being present. Here are a few you can easily do at work.

  • Be fully present with that morning coffee or tea.
  • Be fully present as you read your morning email. (Take a moment to feel your eyes on the screen.)
  • Listen fully to your team or clients when they come to you
  • Use the name of the person when you are talking.

thanks Holly and makes so much sense, especially the listening piece as it is so valuable right now in workplaces to promote psychological safety. I tend to help leaders and managers understand the difference between automatic listening and the more mindful listening mode and it makes a huge difference as people feel "they are in this together" versus when one automatically listens, people feel it is more a "us and them".
