Resolve To Set Goals, Not Resolutions!

The holidays are over, or nearly over if you do it up big time on New Year’s Eve!? I don't know about you but, I already have my favorite yoga pants and University of Georgia sweatshirt ready for New Year’s Eve and the Peach Bowl!?

For you all in the International world, we are crazy about our college football here in the USA! It is just a thing we do! I know..... it's not the real football, aka Soccer! Show us a little grace! Thank you!

?But let's get serious! Are you feeling like we are? Looking to get back on track after an indulgent holiday? You aren’t alone!?It is perfectly normal! You can’t go through life without holiday cheer or a cookie or two!? We were all busy for the holiday and we put a few workouts on the back burner! I know I did! But, if felt so wonderful to get back into the groove this week with healthier food choices and getting moving again!?

How can you easily get back on track? There are several things you can do! Here are some suggestions for you!

1.?????Focus on is your mindset. Ditch the guilt, stop dwelling on it! It’s in the past. You had fun!?That is what life is about!?Time to move on!?

2.?????Don’t let the scale set the tone of your day. The number on the scale does not define you!? Focus on your measurements. Measurements and body composition are better indicators of progress. There are great inexpensive scales available that will help you track your body composition. It is perfectly normal to stay the same weight or even gain a few pounds as you get leaner and see your measurements improve. Why? Because muscle weights more than fat. So the goal is to gain muscle and loose fat.

3.?????Drink water. Lots of water. It helps to flush your system, keeps you hydrated, helps with digestion, and keep you feeling full.? The goal is at least 64 oz. and half your body weight is ounces. So, if you weight 150 pounds, you need 75 oz of water.

4.?????Eat to fuel your body not your emotions! Don’t skip meals. Eat balanced meals with protein, veggies, good fats, fiber, and complex carbohydrates.?Let’s learn now to eat cleaner without a list of foods you can’t eat. And, never cut out food groups!

5.????Get moving. Walk to help your mind and heart! Start strength training to add lean muscle weight and loose inches. No ladies, simple weight training will not have you bulking up!

Schedule EXERCISE in your calendar as an appointment.?

If you only have 30 minutes, do cardio one day and strength training the next.? If you have an hour, you can do 30 minutes of cardio (walking, treadmill, elliptical, cycling, etc) and 30 minutes of strength training exercises.

6.????Say goodbye to the leftovers and junk in the house. Give them away. If they aren’t there, you won’t be tempted to snack on them. Then, don’t buy more! You’ll save tons of money, too!

7.????Set daily, weekly, and monthly goals for yourself. When you achieve your goals you’re more apt to feel accomplished and keep going to create lifelong habits!? When you achieve them, that is NOT time to take your foot off the gas and coast back into your old habits!

Maybe you have a project you want to get done that seems overwhelming to you. Set short term goals that don't take lots of time and before you know it, the project is done.

Maybe you are looking for another job. Make a goal to send out so many resumes a day. Job hunting can be a fulltime job! Take this as an opportunity to resolve to improve your life-work balance, not work-life balance! Perhaps a job is a way to pay the bills while you create a passion project. The time and effort in working the two are certainly worth the outcome, especially if you can monetize the passion project and have a plan B or exit strategy from your job. Be open to other opportunities that allow you the ability to earn residual and passive income to help ends meet each month, fund your passion project, retire a spouse, or provide an exit strategy.

8.?????Think about results not resolutions. Did you know that most resolutions fail by mid-February? Why? People set unrealistic or unattainable goals . They try to change too much at one time and throw the towel in and quit because they forgot to do all 10 things they decided to do on January 1st! Make a decision to go for reaching your goals not cute resolutions. Be resolute to make a change!

Focus on consistency and progress?NOT perfection. Write down your plan for all the things you want to do for the year and plan, plan, plan in writing! If you have to, for example, work on cleaning up your diet for a week, make it a habit, then move on to other areas like exercise, stress management, down time, hydration, and sleep. Give yourself a little grace! We are setting up lifelong habits here!??

9. People ask me all the time how I achieved and maintain my successful healthy lifestyle that my husband and I both follow. It took time! Rome wasn't build in a day! There are no quick fixes. How do I maintain? That word isn't even in my vocabulary! When I began to feel so AMAZING in a matter of the first few weeks and make it a lifestyle, not a DIET, it changed my entire life for the better! That old me is never, and I mean NEVER N-E-V-E-R coming back into my life! It is all about healthy aging and deciding how you want to feel for the rest of your life! For me, I refuse to let chronic disease (obesity, heart disease, diabetes, etc.) rule my life!
