Resolutions
Hola Amigos!
And, like that a year flew by! Good or bad, we all learn from everything that we experience. Every time we are approaching a new year, the most mundanely used (and, in my honest opinion - overrated) word is "resolution".
Let me be honest here. I have never been able to commit to ANY of the resolutions (all the particular ones that I decided I would abide by starting from the 1st of the January) that I have made, till date. We all decide to start something "new" from the "new year" because we feel that there's a hope for a better year. Or well in my case, I always had an obsession with the new year as I looked it as a "clean slate". And, I could have my fresh start.
But, it isn't the new year that will ever do the magic for your resolutions to be fulfilled. It is your willingness, desire and commitment to stick through. No number of resolutions will ever be completed, if you aren't working towards them enough.
Believe you me - nothing about the year or you would change, if you don't change your approach or try different things.
If you, like me, are struggling to keep up with your newly made resolutions, think about it. Why are you failing to keep up with them? What are the blockers that you face? What makes you not follow your resolution? Is it your lack of commitment? Or, have you kept some unrealistic expectations?
Making resolutions is pretty much easy. But, keeping up with them is not. That requires determination, and courage to follow through - despite all the bottlenecks you face.
Journal your progress everyday - I highly recommend this. It's working like a charm for me. Note down your blockers, and hurdles. Reward yourself if you follow. And, punish yourself if you don't follow through.
Create an action plan. Stop dreaming; and start working towards the dream. Because if you don't work, then nothing else will.
Know that - you are accountable for your growth, and progress. No one else will do it for you. You want to lose weight? Exercise. You want to gain knowledge? Read. You want to be better at a skill? Learn.
You'll grow. Day by Day.

Don't be discouraged by failures. Be inspired by them. By encouraged to do better. Remember why you started, and bounce back!
Leaving you all with this marvellous quote by Catherine Pulsifer about "Why Resolutions Fail?" to ponder --
Mainly, because they are only a statement, or what we wish for in the coming year. There are usually no action plans, no deadlines, no backup plans. Sometimes they are unrealistic resolutions, with no other thought or plans beside the statement.
I hope you keep up with all your resolutions and not only this year, but for every year to come. Because, you will have the calendar changing every year BUT your vision to success (in whatever you want to achieve) should always remain crystal clear.
Lots of luck and best wishes,
Simran

3 年Very Insightful! The 'clean slate' perception is spot on. I don't even remember my resolutions many a times, which clearly shows that journalling the progress and actionable steps are missing. Hope to turn the tables around this time with wisdom-driven actions.
