NO Resolutions - & here's WHY

NO Resolutions - & here's WHY

Have you made any New Year's resolutions? Been to the gym yet? Not to dishearten you, but research shows that some 80% of those well-meant New Year's resolutions soon peter out - even before the end of January. After all, old habits die hard. Chocolate chip cookies are as yummy as they were last year. And who invented Dry January anyway?

I don't make resolutions. I am resolved. Resolved to do what needs to be done. And guess what? That gives me better results every time.

Yes, I do need to get up, start moving and actually do what I intend to do - that's how it works, right? Healthy habits form a year-round lifeline that supports doing what you need and want to do. And NOT making silly or over-ambitious resolutions releases me instantly from any guilt I'd otherwise feel breaking them. It's that simple.

What is your intention?

Suppose your New Year's resolution - or better yet, your intention this year - is to boost your students' understanding of basic English tenses. After all, so many students struggle with tenses. How would you go about it? More importantly, what can you do to make it work- right now and in the long run?

No! Try not. Do - or do not. There is no try. (Master Yoda)

Instead of looking for quick fixes, why not establish lasting habits? So, what do you need so your resolutions/intentions may turn into proper habits?

Make it so

New habits must be easy enough to follow. The One Rule is as easy as it gets: all verb forms follow ONE typical pattern. That pattern is the lifeline for understanding the basics. It also supports mastering modals, comprehending compounds, and crushing conditionals. One Rule, to rule them all.

New habits should be embedded, linking them to existing habits. The One Rule approach fits any course book or teaching context - you decide how to incorporate it into your teaching routine. Your students will love how the One Rule pattern is always there to help and guide them - without complicated rules and exceptions.

New habits that also work in the long run require consistency - which sets them apart from disappointing quick fixes. All the better if that consistency is itself embedded in regular, easy practices. Whatever you and your students do in English class, the One Rule is at the heart of every sentence. How cool is that?

Now what?

Here's the thing: the One Rule shows the typical pattern at the heart of the beautiful English language. So, the One Rule approach offers an empowering lifeline and makes essential grammar easy for all.

So forget about New Year's resolutions that you know will probably fail before the end of the month. Forget about spartan diets, that intense exercise regimen, or those boring grammar rules. Start living! Build healthy habits. Set healthy boundaries. De-clutter. Try the One Rule approach & have serious fun with the beautiful English language!

You can do this!

So check out how the One Rule approach can help you make 2025 an amazing year.

May 2025 be your best year yet.
