I've always found it very puzzling when people get offended just because someone was being passionate about their own work and didn't care about how you feel. Doesn't the passion and respect for work deserve the respect? Instead we hate that person and label him/her as selfish or rude or any other colorful character describing word which sounds like mockery to the one who understands the situation.
There are people who are always very polite and smiling, very nice to everyone. In my experience, I exhibit same behavior when I am indifferent to surrounding and know for a fact that the people present there will never be able to touch what I value the most. I realized after a long time of observation that it is a common trait. We smile at people who matter only when it means something, we speak to them in precise words because the decorations hold no value or interest.
It is disheartening to be misunderstood so many times that one starts wondering if I am in the same time and speak the same language. It is human nature to be attracted to pleasant things, but somewhere on the road, we have lost the meaning of it. The values which ought to be pleasant are frowned upon, passion for work is detested and honesty is punished on various levels.
So, with a new year right in front of me, I prefer to start the change with me, by respecting the passion, supporting the honesty and rewarding the loyalty. I intend to take it forward in years coming to make sure that I help the ones worth it in every way possible and make the world a better place with real values.

It CAN, but it depends on the person. People can be passionate about their work and still be friendly, compassionate and caring about others. People can also be passionate about their work and be rude and obnoxious. Balance is key.
