A Message from Our CEO

The Internet of So Many Things

We talk a lot at Resolute HQ about the Internet of Things (IoT). It's a funny-sounding term that sounds rather vague until you grasp the concept and realize the potential. That using a variety of network protocols, we can connect "things" together using reliable sensors and cloud-computing platforms for a multitude of reasons. For us, it's to make a data-rich blueprint of a building's equipment so it can run more efficiently, and in turn, save 30% in energy, its carbon footprint, and money. All thanks to a term that literally meant nothing when it was first coined in 1999 to get senior management's attention during a company presentation. It took 10 years for IoT to be used with intention and then evolve into what it is today. And we - and many other companies and products - are here because of it.

Sincerely,

Bill Popp

Imagine a photograph of Earth taken from the International Space Station: a breathtaking view of continents, oceans, and forests spinning in the vast darkness of space. The photograph encapsulates the entirety of the planet, but from 250 miles above, it is only a model — a small sample of reality. It offers a simplified, idealized version of Earth, capturing its beauty and complexity from a distance, but it doesn't reveal the full depth of life and experience unfolding beneath it. Similarly, AI models provide us with snapshots of reality, designed to simulate specific tasks, yet they are limited in scope and cannot encompass the entirety of the world they represent.

Over time, building systems drift from their intended performance, leading to inefficiencies, rising costs, and occupant discomfort. Even well-designed buildings develop issues due to wear and tear, outdated automation, or system overrides. These problems drive up energy bills, increase maintenance costs, and create ongoing frustration for facility managers.
