Resistance Roundup 07/26: Build strong foundations for politically active communities this summer

Keep Faith

It's been a wild week for political news! With President Biden dropping out of the 2024 presidential election and Vice President Kamala Harris jumping in, we now have the strong possibility that a New American — and a trailblazing one at that — will be at the very top of the ticket in November.

We're excited to see how this inspires other New Americans to run, win, and lead with their immigrant identities proudly represented on the campaign trail!

Stay Woke

Did you know that nearly 65% of races in the United States went uncontested in 2023??

Uncontested races provide an opportunity for voters and candidates to get actively involved in civic life and present an opportunity for organizations to help support potential candidates interested in running for local races and provide voter’s access to accurate information on these races.

NAL News and Updates

Last week, the New American Leaders team convened for our annual all-staff retreat and mapped out our plans for the upcoming year. We return to our work with renewed vigor as we build towards a democracy that works for all of us! ?????????

#NALpistas Did That

Here are some pretty awesome things our alumni have done recently:

Eva Masadiego (Former NAL National Director of Programs and 2016 Ready to Lead? and Ready to Win? alumna) was appointed Executive Director of the Arizona-Mexico Commission.

Ahsia Badi (Ready to Lead? 2019 alumna) was appointed Executive Director of the New York City Children’s Cabinet.

Eleanor Moreno (Ready to Lead? Michigan 2019 alumna) announces her campaign to run for Grand Rapids Public Schools’ Board of Education.

St. Louis Park (MN) Mayor Nadia Mohamed (NAL Elected Officials Network) received the Emerging Leader Award from the League of Minnesota Cities.

Know someone who should be included in this list? Let us know! We're so proud of our NAL family for taking action to create a stronger, more inclusive democracy and would love to give everyone a shoutout!
