The Resilient Recruiter

The Resilient Recruiter

“I don’t know if I’m different from everybody else, but there’s really only two things to me that are really, really important – recruiting good players in the program and developing those players once they get here.” – Nick Saban

We as humans are bound to have a lot of perceptions in many odd ways. Be it our personal or professional life, there are times we are unable to get things right or set things straight. What matters is how we look at the situation and deal with it. So is the feel of every recruiter out there and the perception plays a huge part in how candidates evolve? The times can be difficult to reach out to the passive audience and convince them to take the opportunity, to give a backup in case the candidate decides to back off or due to any unusual circumstances. Words can provide a lot of spur in our lives especially in times like these where the unexpected COVID has taken over. They make us rethink our acuities and give us hope when times are tough. This is especially true when it comes to recruitments. Astoundingly, however, there’s a dearth of great recruiting qualities that every recruiter possesses which may be been ignored on a personal level.

My R's of recruiting that I believe are :

1) Readiness: Accepting the challenges as they are and the courage to work on mandates make me more ready to face the pros and cons of the mandate. As new knowledge and technologies have proven in recent years, nothing stays identical in our recruiting world. There are always new tackles, practices, and trends to stay on par with. What I have realized is, if you’re not willing to change as well, it’ll be hard to stay ahead. Be courageous to face the new trends and mold yourself towards learning new things, having said that, baby steps at a time.

2) Resoluteness: Be determined in the tasks you plan in order to set foot on the right path. The candidate may or may not be interested in the opportunity you have but be resolute enough to think things from their perspective. If you decide enough to find the right talent and work to fight obstacles, remember one thing “Once you are clear about what you wish to create, you can maintain a steady stream of thoughts – unwavering, resolute, and focused.”― Dr. Prem Jagyasi

3) Restoration: Having faith in your self recruiting techniques and ways, is the best that every recruiter has. Everyone has their own ways and patterns to work. When a recruiter finds a great candidate who is undeniably seamless, it’s common for us to say that we got lucky. We find remarkable talent because we have put in the uphill struggle and you see something in a job seeker that others didn’t. So please, don’t discount your capabilities and effort by giving unjustified credit to luck. Celebrate your triumph and be gratified of what you’ve achieved.

Sometimes, situations like candidates not joining or giving you a hard time, make you question your choices. Being a Potterhead, I know that Albus Dumbledore never gave up on Bertie botts with the hope that he will someday come across a better one than before. I, as a recruiter feel the same. We need to accept the mistakes and keep trying hard.

Recruiting is a great and exhilarating job. But sometimes even the best of us need a little bit of encouragement and fortitude. Remember this, “Our attitudes control our lives. Attitudes are a secret power working 24 hours a day, for good or bad. It is of paramount importance that we know how to harness and control this great force.” — Tom Blandi

So what are your R's of recruiting?
