As an executive coach, what role does resilience play for EMBA students? Resilience, or in other words the capacity to handle adversity and setbacks constructively, is a competency of growing importance for today’s managers. Developing resilience means to become more astute in steering your “inner world”, e.g. your attitude, emotions and thoughts. As the former CEO of Deutsche Bank, Alfred Herrhausen, once put it: “If you can’t lead yourself you will not be able to lead others.” The EMBA Program provides a structure that enables and fosters both professional and personal growth. In the Advanced Leadership Module each student works with a dedicated executive coach over the full period of the program. These confidential sessions are supported by interactive workshops on relevant leadership topics to provide supporting models but also to challenge the participants to leave their comfort zone and grow.
