Resilience Tested. Goal Achieved. Humbled Again !!

Over weekend 3-4 October another personal challenge was completed (and it truly was) to cover the Chiltern Cycleway, a distance of c.300km in southern England, UK. To raise funds for Prostate Cancer, a charity close to my heart.

My usual companion Mac joined me, and my father, who recently passed from cancer watched on.

Despite having to postpone the challenge from May, due to the COVID craziness, the next chance we could do it was early Autumn. English weather as usual made it hard work, and on reflection shouldn't have picked the wettest weekend of the year - it rained persistently for the 9 hours of being in the saddle. Just for fun there was wind to contend with.

On the second day, the roads became increasingly difficult to pass, with many being unpassable (flooded at the bottom of hills) and dangerous to descend. This meant the route was cut short as the roads were flooded and brakes did not work.

This meant that I was 26 miles short of my target distance ……so on returning home I hopped onto my virtual bike and completed a marathon distance around London for fun ! The best bit about this is that it was raining virtually as well – you could not make it up.

Attached is a quick montage of the trip, ending with a well-deserved drink and Sunday Roast !

A massive thanks to all who have donated – We have smashed the £1500 target —- there is still time to donate if you would like to.

 The stats...

- Over £1500 raised for Prostate Cancer

- 260km cycled

- 9200 ft of climbing

- Several man parts that are going to take a while to recover due to chafing

- No brakes left
