Resilience: Making Right Decisions in Wrong Conditions.

Resilience: Making Right Decisions in Wrong Conditions.

What are your ideal conditions for decision making?

The beach provides an ideal decision making forum. Clear sight all around, talent in abundance and time to think clearly. You can work from home all you want, I am WFB #disruption.

However, when was the last time you, or I made a decision in perfect conditions?

Some of the critical decisions I have made were executed on the spot whilst tired, hungry, isolated and a bit lost.

So, let's rescue this because resilient leadership is where brilliant actions are taken with little support and lot of self doubt.

1. Trust your instinct.

Are you sure that you don't actually know what is most important, or who you need on, or off the team, or which tactic to follow in the autumn? I often know what to do, I am less sure about the timing. Discerning the difference between clarity and courage is king.

2. Talk to your people

Some of your people are strange (although you might have recruited them). When I am trusting my instinct, I start asking my people what they think BECAUSE they don't think like me. Some of your people's talent is hidden because no one asked them what they thought. Talk to the contrarians and ask why your idea will fail. Be bold.

3. Plan for uncertainty

I realise that this week is busy; diary creaking with importance, overwhelmed with stakeholder demands and staff shortages. In three months time, with three months time to prepare, I will face what I failed to address. Given that I have three months notice, what should I do? How could I develop my business culture over the next 90 days to develop decision making conditions. What would the benefit be in future of a 15 minute clarity meeting with myself each day just to get my breath?

4. Leaders make decisions regardless of the conditions

We could easily name people, famous for poor choices. We might find it harder to list the daily decisions made by amazing leaders who kept the ball in play by making sure decision makers were able to move the game forwards.

You would benefit from making a decision about this webinar.
