Resilience in the Livestock Sector

Together with a leading client in the private livestock sector of South America, I plan to present the most recent experiences on resilience for farm animals at the VIII Platform on DRR for America & The Caribbean, in Uruguay, February 28 to March 2, 2023.

  • The Platforms are mechanisms to monitor the progress & implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 and to deliberate on the understanding and managing of disaster risk. In 2015, and after intense lobbying at the UN, farm & working animals were historically included as indicators for livelihood protection and food security, to be implemented by national governments and the private sector.

Our presentation will include lessons learned from (a.) field drills; (b.) online simulations during the pandemic, and the future use of (c.) visualization of future scenarios for the farm animal sector, all in line with the UNDRR Voluntary Commitments on farm animals, and with the objective of promoting the inclusion of the livestock sector as a resilience node, before 2030.
