Resilient leader = resilient business. You can't build resilient teams without resilient leaders,

Resilient leaders?have the ability to sustain their energy level under pressure, to cope with disruptive changes and adapt. They bounce back from setbacks. They also overcome major difficulties without engaging in dysfunctional behavior or harming others.

Resilience is a skill that everyone can and should develop, especially if you want to improve your leadership skills and make a positive impact. Everyone can become resilience should they wish to. As we go through life, we are bound to face challenges, every day struggles and other stressful situations that can throw us off balance and have a negative effect on our psychological and physical well-being.

Think of resilience as the capacity to persevere, rise above your baseline and thrive under challenge. It's a dynamic process of successful adaptation to an adversity.

We often think of resilient people as bold or unstoppable, however you don't become resilient overnight. To show resilience means you are adapting to new complex and challenging, learning new coping skills and sustaining positive changes in your life.

The main stumbling block for people not reaching full resilience potential is our thinking style or mental attitude. Mindset is key.

It’s often your ability to mentally handle the intangibles that can affect your business (increase supplier prices, political situation, unknown setbacks, the fear of failure, etc) that carries that aspiring, resilient leaders across the winning finish line.

You can become more resilient by learning to understand and challenge your thinking styles, and cultivating skills and competences to counteract any thinking errors and faulty assumptions so you can see the true cause of stress and adversity / challenge and its consequences and effects it can have on one’s life and lives of others around them

Resilient people have a stronger perception that they can achieve desired goals and retain mastery even though life events can be distressing

  1. Positive coping?// Harnessing adaptive coping skills such as being solution-focused instead of dwelling on a problem. What can you do right now to resolve the situation? What resources / support you need to deal with the challenge effectively?
  2. Positive affect // Increasing exposure to positive emotions (meeting a friend for a coffee, going for a massage or a pampering session, laugh more, going for a walk or a jog, listening to music, enjoying your hobby, having something to look forward to), staying optimistic yet being realistic about your current situation.
  3. Positive thinking?// Positive reframing of negative thoughts - challenging the validity, reality and being pragmatic about the situation; Where is the evidence that if I think X (negative thought), Z will happen (dreaded outcome)? Even if i'm right, how does thinking X (negative thoughts) help me resolve the situation right now? Set clear, well-defined goals and create a solid action plan that will give you clarity on your next moves.
  4. Realism?// Learning to have an understanding of locus of control (what you can actually control and what things are outside of your control?); increasing your self-efficacy (your belief you can cope with the task at hand) and self-worth by leaning new skills, upgrading your expert knowledge, seeking external support and guidance, etc.
  5. Behavioural control?// The inclusion of activities to increase self-regulation and self-discipline such as time management techniques (pomodoro technique, prioritising tasks), having a coach and accountability sessions, etc.


By enhancing individual capacity for resilience people can achieve their goals as they tend to stay more committed to the task at hand, solve problems more effectively and bolster their self-efficacy, which in turn, helps people to persevere even longer.?

Resilience provides the ability to recover quickly from change, hardship, or misfortune. It’s the product of a broad perspective. Resilience taps into your ability to adapt even as it relies on your own knowledge about yourself - your values, confidence, and optimism.
