DEVCOM CBC is paving the way and helping the Army transform into a multi-domain force through its modernization and priority research efforts linked to the National Defense Strategy and the nation’s goals. CBC continues to lead the development of innovative defense technology, including autonomous chem-bio defense solutions designed to enhance the accuracy and safety of the warfighter. “We’re in a digital world now,” said Patrick Riley, a research chemist and machine learning advisor to the sensors program at DEVCOM CBC. “Information is constantly being generated. The integration of AI/ML compiles the most pertinent information to warfighters faster,” he noted. DEVCOM CBC is a key player in supporting the US Army’s mission to capture and implement cutting-edge science and technology capabilities that align to priorities identified in the Department of Defense’s National Defense Science & Technology Strategy. With a team of experts at the forefront of innovation and a wide range of capabilities across various domains, the Center has supported the Army in developing mission critical solutions designed for integration across the board. August 18, 2024 marked10 years since partnerships across DOD, the U.S. Government, and the global community allowed a team of demilitarization experts from DEVCOM CBC to safely destroy 1,300 tons of Syrian chemical warfare material at sea. That’s a wrap! DEVCOM CBC, in co-sponsorship with the CBRNe Society, hosted the NCT USA conference from September 3-5 at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. The conference brought together members of the CBRNe defense, counter-improvised explosive devices, and explosive ordnance disposal communities in a collaborative and educational forum filled with cutting-edge technologies. NCT USA 2024 was a great success, offering a world-class networking and knowledge exchange platform for government and military senior leaders, local and federal first responders, academia, and industry partners in the field. “It is incumbent on us to work with industry and international partners and get on-board the moving train,” noted DEVCOM CBC Director Michael Bailey. DEVCOM CBC inducted Mr. James Michael "Mike" Cress into the Center's Hall of Fame on Thursday, 28 August 2024, in the Klein Auditorium. Mr. Cress has provided nearly 50 years of positive influence, innovative change, and leadership to the chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear enterprise. One of only five inductees since the Hall's creation in 2017, Mr. Cress exemplifies what the Hall of Fame truly represents: a lifelong contribution to the Center's and the Nation's success. ?
