Welcome to Reshaping Multilateralism, a newsletter from the team at Nexus25.

Nexus25 is a joint initiative from experts at Istituto Affari Internazionali and the Center for Climate and Security, and is funded by Stiftung Mercator. Every month, we’ll bring you the latest from the climate-security-migration nexus, with a particular focus on how to make multilateralism work for everyone - not just the Global North.?

For the past two years, our experts and partners from the Global South have been examining complex crises in Southeast Asia and the Sahel, bringing together dozens of high-level experts on the sidelines of major multilateral events. Some key takeaways include:?

• The critical link between modern agri-food systems, geopolitics, and sustainable security;
• The need to break down age-old policy silos that divide development, defense, and diplomatic actors;?
• The continued disconnect between those shaping climate mitigation and adaptation efforts and those in the Global South most affected by climate change; and?
• The potential for nexus risk-informed approaches to reshape the multilateral system as we know it.?

This year, we’re focusing on concrete recommendations for policymakers while continuing our research into complex crises and forging new partnerships throughout Africa and Southeast Asia.

We know that many of you are on the go, so in February, we also launched a podcast to get folks up to speed - in 40 minutes or less. We’ll be traveling to the Munich Security Conference, World Bank Spring Meetings, COP29 and more to dissect the nexus challenges that will define the global landscape for years to come. Along the way, we’ll be sharing our latest interviews, research, and analysis of multilateral developments.
