Reset for Greater Impact!

Let me reminisce on this!

In every human endeavor, as you engage with the faculties of impact and strive to drive significant change in the world order, you must periodically hit the “Reset Button”.

Last year, at about this time - midyear, I was locked in a room for circa 3 hours, integrally engrossed in a critical conversation with the lecturing and non-lecturing staff of the prestigious Bonny Vocational Centre (BVC), an affiliate institute to the City and Guilds of London Institute, the Institute of Leadership Management London, and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), "originally" established to promote vocational and entrepreneurial skill acquisition, develop technical competencies and self-reliance in youths in Bonny community.

It is only imperative, that we begin with the very fundamental question? Why should we RESET?

The array of happenings NOT just within the local community but globally cutting across every sector of society lends huge potency to the question and credence to the thought process.

Without the deliberate act or culture of self-appraisal/reflection in the journey towards any desired outcome or destination, the human experience tends to get plunged into paths and reeled with actions that will not deliver to us the desired outcome sometimes not necessarily because the path chosen is unguided but for the sheer change in the premises that birth such noble aspiration at the time of birth – We all MUST stop and Check-In to be sure we are NOT running/pursuing a course that has outlived its relevance in the global scheme of things. The world has changed.

A quick check at the Vision and Mission statement of most organizations most times would leave you baffled and question the sense of objectivity of the creators or vision bearers. The obsolescence of such a laudable Vision hitherto will quickly jump at you.

This is not because the forerunners aren’t dexterous enough but because those who took the baton of leadership are so engrossed in the operationalization of the entire ecosystem (Ostrich-buried) so much that they are oblivious to the speed of things on the outer-world. More important it is the practice of periodic impact review or reset for greater global impact for academic institution otherwise you run the risk of preparing people for a world that no longer exist.

“As a change maker, you MUST as a matter of urgency, pay attention to what is going on” – Kunle Soriyan.

There is a huge difference between what is happening and what is going on. The realization that someone pulled a trigger of a gun close to you is a testament that you are still alive – if you are conscious enough to hear the sound of the revolver, you are lucky. That is exactly what is “happening” – the resultant effect of all that has been happening unknown to you. Oftentimes, It's already too late to take action.?

What is going on is where the deal is actually. The ideation, the exchange of cerebral ideology, and the constellation of the thoughts of such inquisitive and daring soul.

This is where the status quo is challenged, where new patterns are created and sometimes sensibilities are “insulted – challenged”. Changemakers are experts who are triggering conversations around what is going on. They, as a matter of fact, change the game by pushing the envelope of human experience and never settling for impossibilities.

They don’t only define the platform; they set the pace and blast the gun for late adopters to start running for survival. Change and global impact makers are masters of patterns and data. They understand that patterns and data are tiny “divine” voices that whisper the path to fortune.

One of the critical success factors (CSF) for individuals and organizations alike is the inherent culture in such an ecosystem. For individuals, your culture can be akin to your character, your vulnerabilities, your likes and dislikes, your habits, etc. Your culture makes or mars the outcome of the outlined strategies irrespective of how ingenious those strategies are. The sole reason for this is the fact that the natural human tendency is to go off track and the consequences of such action are to undermine the desired outcome and aspirations.

The need to reset for global impact indeed calls for all-around base root reassessment. The total rejigs of systems and structures. The questioning of sanity is so much more the questioning of the subject of purpose – Asking the very pivotal question “Why?”.

Why do we even desire to make impact talk more of global impact? This too must be challenged and dumped if the dots don’t connect. The import of “Purpose” can never be over-emphasized. It answers the question about the “raison deter”. The original intent guides “Planning, Behaviours, Short-Term and Long-Term Goal Pursuits” (Oxford Dictionary). You see, it basically provides the framework and resources needed for progress.

As you reflect on the subject of “Reset for Greater Impact”, you can’t conclude on this subject that is central to human existence without envisioning the entire process like someone trying to build a house.

·????????The Roof – is the desired outcome – Greater Impact.

·????????The pillars – that you need to sustain “The Roof” – Vision, Right Thinking, Agility & Nimbleness, Culture Fit, Collaboration, People, and Leadership.

However, very pivotal to erecting a safe house is the foundation.

·????????The foundationClarity – when all things fall in place. The fundamental understanding of NOT just what is required but how what is needed will be weaved together to crystallize the desired outcome.?

Conclusively, to reset for global/greater impact you must amongst others:

1.???Review your Vision and Mission Statement.

2.???Be an ardent student of data, patterns, and trends.

3.???Re-engineer your Culture | Habits.

4.???Understand your Purpose.

5.???Gain Clarity.

Oh yeah!

I didn’t mention the “funny” look on some of the faces of the staff when the chauffeur arrived at the venue. How I love to walk into those kinds of atmospheres totally underrated and then boom, you hit them hard with some in-depth discourse. They usually don’t see you coming.

So, I wasn’t in any way surprised when my associate came back with the following feedback from the staff members……

?1. "He knows his craft".

2. "I have seen people speak, but I saw it at another level. Mr Ben gave us more than enough reason to re-evaluate our entire work life and life itself.

In a nut shell, we can not stop talking about that young man. He finished me with facts, a good knowledge about global issues, business trend, the future.

The way he prepared his slide, is too captivating.

He was indeed the man of the day".

3. "OMG!!! The guy was DOP!!! He wowed us all...the best i have ever seen and met".
