If we lose our passwords, we can reset it
The pass code or PIN are going to be replaced by biometric traits, such as face, fingerprint etc. This week VISA announced the security road map for using facial recognition technology in New Zealand. The concern is on spoofing of biometrics. Are the service providers taking enough precaution on biometrics spoofing?
What would happen if our biometric data are stolen?
If we lose our passwords, we can reset it. What would happen if our biometric data are lost or stolen? Can we reset or change our biometric traits? Unfortunately, we can't do anything about it. Biometric "passwords" can't be reset.
Can we reset or change our biometric traits?
But there are possibilities. If we cover our fingers with some artificial and arbitrary fingerprint like fake ones, and which are difficult to be copied but easy to fabricate?
Replaceable fingerprints by covering fingers by prosthetic fakes?
That is what is suggested by Janus Kopfstein. In an article Kopfstein detailed how a fake fingerprint like prosthetics can be used over the finger to work like a fingerprint. And this artificial fingerprint can be reset if it is stolen.
May it help people to fight biometric data breaches?
It can help people to fight biometric data breaches. It is a question whether government or private bodied will accept this artificial replaceable prosthetic fingerprint as a biometric trait or not.
Isn't it the best use case of fake fingerprints? So you can reset your artificial fingerprint. What do you think?

6 年You are right Dr Choudhury. Never thought of this vulnerability regarding biometric security system. Several Govt and Non-Govt bodies already collected our finger prints, face images etc. without thinking in this way and have already put us in danger.

6 年With all of the hacking incidents recently as well as data theft, even of extremely private financial information, it's going to take quite a lot before I trust my biometric data to anyone! As to my DNA, there is no way that any of these commercial DNA facilities will get anything from me!
