Reservoirs: is the situation critical?
The table shows the water stored by the hydro power plants in Brazil: 76 GW.month.
The national power consumption is close to 70 GW.
It means that the water stored equates to 1.1 months of national power consumption.
The nominal capacity of the reservoirs is about 4 months of national power consumption. So the current stored volume is about 25%.
Maybe heavy rains will happen these coming months, bringing "peace of mind" to the country (Brazil's power matrix is 70% hydro). Maybe!
My recommendation however is going for a prudent posture and setting up a strategy of locking power deals asap, taking advantage of the current very attractive prices. Chances of future power prices escalating - and a lot - should be considered!
