To instill market confidence, I think it is great that SFC has taken this approach against offshore research companies issuing purportedly false reports on HK-listed companies.

In Singapore, we had our fair share of such incidents ranging from reports issued by Muddy Waters on Olam in 2012, Glaucus Research on China Minzhong in 2013, and more recently, Iceberg and Muddy Waters on Noble. The extra-territoriality reach of our laws should have a positive effect on these incidents where it relates to investigation and enforcement actions, if any, I hope.
