Requirements for LPWAN Technologies
Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technologies are developed for Low data transfer, Low current consumption, Low cost and Enhanced Coverage IoT applications. 4C's of LPWAN Requirements:
Coverage: IoT devices will be deployed in extreme challenging environments, anywhere indoor or outdoor, in remote locations, moving vehicles etc.
Extended coverage enables IoT devices to communicate with the network in these challenging environments. IoT devices operate independently in these harsh environment and may simply stop sending data incase communication fails because of coverage.
Current Consumption: LPWAN technologies are developed for low data transfer and Low current consumption IoT applications.
IoT devices operate in challenging environment in remote locations where changing battery is costly option, hence low power consumption is among the most important requirements for LPWAs.
Cost: Reduce price of Chipset and module is achieved by reducing complexity in modem technology. The main purpose to reduce the complexity in modem is to integrate only functions required for IoT applications.
LPWAN cellular technologies makes efficient and low data transfer which bring down cost of monthly/yearly network service provider’s subscription.
Capacity: Billions of devices will access to the networks hence increased network capacity is an important requirement.
Scale to support a massive number of MTC mobile stations is achieved by reducing the signalling procedures (reducing the signalling makes reduced load on network).
