The Canada Start-up Visa Program aims to attract foreign entrepreneurs who possess the ability and potential to establish innovative businesses in Canada, generate employment opportunities for Canadians, and compete in the global market. If you have an innovative business idea and can secure support from one of the designated organizations, you may be eligible for immigration to Canada.

Qualifying Business:

To have a qualifying business for Canada's Start-up Visa Program, the following conditions must be met at the time of receiving a commitment from a designated organization: the applicants must hold 10% or more of the voting rights of the corporation and together with the designated organization, hold more than 50% of the total voting rights. Additionally, upon receiving permanent residency, the entrepreneur must actively manage the business from within Canada, have a significant portion of its operations taking place in the country, and be incorporated in Canada.

Letter of Support:

To participate in Canada's Start-up Visa Program, a letter of support from a designated organization must be obtained. The designated organizations are business groups that have been approved to support or invest in start-ups. The process of obtaining the letter of support may vary for each organization, and the entrepreneur may be asked to present their business idea in person or submit a detailed business plan.

The entrepreneur must contact the designated organization and convince them to support their business idea. If an agreement is reached, the designated organization will provide a letter of support, which must be included in the application for the Start-up Visa Program. The designated organization will also send a commitment certificate directly to the government. Both the letter of support and the commitment certificate will be used to assess the application. However, additional business information may be requested for a final decision. If the letter of support is not included or any other requirements are not met, the application will be rejected.

Language:

To participate in Canada's Start-up Visa Program, language proficiency in English, French, or both is necessary for business success in the country. An approved language test must be taken and the results submitted with the application. The minimum level required is Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in all four language skills: speaking, reading, listening, and writing. If the minimum language proficiency is not met, the application will be rejected.

Funds:

It is important to note that the government of Canada does not provide financial support to new start-up visa immigrants. Upon application, evidence of the necessary funds to support oneself and any dependents must be provided. These funds cannot be borrowed from another person. The required amount is based on the size of the family and is updated annually.

Key Benefits:

Canada's Startup Visa program offers foreign entrepreneurs several key benefits, including:

Expanded market reach: By launching their startup in Canada, entrepreneurs can tap into a new customer base and expand their business reach.

Access to funding and support: Through Canada's Startup Visa program, entrepreneurs can access a variety of resources, including funding, mentorship, and support from industry experts, to help grow their businesses.
