Technical Architecture Knowledge
In-depth technical architecture expertise enables Architects to design and maintain robust IT landscapes. This includes defining how systems, data, and technologies interconnect within a secure and efficient framework.
Ability to Connect Disparate Systems
Integration is a core responsibility, requiring Architects to bridge diverse systems like SAP, CRM, and legacy databases. Their expertise ensures seamless communication and data flow across platforms, enabling business continuity.
Knowledge of Standards
Enterprise Architects need a deep understanding of IT and industry standards (e.g., TOGAF, ISO). This knowledge helps ensure systems are compliant, interoperable, and aligned with best practices, fostering consistency across the enterprise.
Performance Tracking
Enterprise Architects must monitor system performance and ensure IT solutions meet business objectives. This includes using metrics to track system reliability, scalability, and efficiency, enabling proactive decision-making and optimization.
Hyperscalar Platforms
Proficiency in cloud-based platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP is vital. Architects leverage these hyperscalers to deliver scalable, flexible, and cost-effective solutions that support modern enterprise demands.
Security Knowledge
Enterprise Architects must prioritize cybersecurity, designing systems that protect sensitive data and comply with regulations. This involves implementing robust encryption, access control, and monitoring measures.
Critical Applications
Enterprise Architects manage essential applications, such as SAP, that drive core business processes. They ensure these systems are reliable, scalable, and optimized for evolving business needs.

1 个月This list of skills highlights is something Jon Reed called out when we were presenting on this topic at @ASUG's TechConnect conference in Nov. It's a daunting combination of skills for any individual to master, and that means the EA role is really going to have to be fulfilled by multiple individuals, and/or a Center of Excellence. I would also add business domain knowledge to your required skills list, which just emphasizes the need for a team approach to the EA role

1 个月Although I can’t attend the event, I wanted to share my thoughts on the evolving role of Enterprise Architects. From my perspective, this role blends technical expertise with strategic vision, focusing on aligning technology with broader business goals. Architects must create scalable systems, integrate diverse platforms, and leverage emerging technologies like Business AI and cloud solutions to drive innovation. Collaboration across teams, along with the ability to stay agile and adapt to evolving trends, is essential for success. I’m also encouraged by the focus on "Women in Enterprise Architecture." . Promoting diversity in leadership roles is crucial, as it brings new perspectives and strengthens the field. May i also ask, How do you think Business AI will reshape the role of Enterprise Architects in terms of decision-making and system design? I'm particularly interested in how this technology will influence both strategic alignment and the technical side of architecture, as well as the skills that architects will need to keep pace with these changes. Feel free to share a few lines of your views here!

1 个月Interesting that AI doesn't have a place in this picture. One of the questions we're trying to answer today in our projects, is this: how can we architect our system environment to enable advanced technologies (automation, machine learning, or AI) for today and for the next 5 years. Did you include it under "Code and data" maybe ?
