Representing UK Women Apprentices at the House of Lords All Party Parliamentary Group [Reupload]
Apologies for the delay in posts. I recognise it has been three months, and uploading a reupload that happened in 2019 may not be the best move, but I wanted to re-upload these anyway so they have a home! I am in the process of writing new posts and took a short hiatus due to handing in my final essays and graduating!
I was honoured to attend my first All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) event at the House of Lords as a representative of apprentices from all over the UK. The event was a great opportunity to discuss important issues related to apprenticeships, including the need for training providers to have a backup plan for apprentices if the companies they work for go bankrupt.
Another key topic of discussion was the need for fair representation of women in the selection phase of the Institute for Apprenticeships (IFA) panel. We believe it is important to have transparency in the selection process and ensure that all voices are heard. I am pleased to say that I expect an email tomorrow afternoon about the progress made regarding women's representation in the IFA. Quick action and response are positive signs that our voices are heard and progress is made.

Overall, I found the event to be a great success. It was inspiring to be surrounded by so many people who are passionate about the future of apprenticeships in the UK. I hope we can continue working together to make positive changes in this field and ensure that all apprentices have the support and resources they need to succeed.
UPDATE 11/06/24: I honestly can't remember if anything came of this, which is disappointing. I remember being nervous about the event but feeling like a powerful superhero after asking how apprentices who identify as women would be represented, etc. I definitely felt out of my depth, but grateful for the experience. I hope things have been improved with the selection process and the general representation of those who identify as women in apprenticeships!
