The Reports of My Graduation are Greatly Exaggerated!
Adaptation from Bergsteiner et al. (2010, p. 36) showing students' educational experiences within the Kolb (2015) Experiential Learning Theory (KELT) model, but on a continuum from Student as Receiver to Student as Actor.

The Reports of My Graduation are Greatly Exaggerated!

Thank you to my many friends who sent me notes of congratulations. The reports of my graduation are greatly exaggerated. Please read on.

The misquote from Samuel Clemens--Mark Twain--reads, "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." In fact, he apparently wrote "The report of my death was an exaggeration," to an Journalist Frank Marshall White of the New York Journal in response to the journalist's query about Mr. Clemens' wellbeing.

When I updated my profile, I entered 2022 as my concluding year for my Ph.D. studies at the University at Buffalo Graduate School of Education. This apparently triggered a push notification to my LinkedIn contacts. For all intents and purposes, I am finished, but there are a few steps remaining. Here are the details.

  1. The dissertation is written and in review with my Dissertation Committee Chair. After responding to her editorial comments, it will go to my other committee members.
  2. I will defend on Wednesday, February 23. If you would like to attend the 20-minute presentation via Zoom, message me and I will send an invitation.
  3. I will be conferred on June 1, 2022. Then it will be over and I will have my Ph.D. in Education.

I'll post another article with an explanation of my research. The short story is that I interviewed students, instructors, and administrators, at the Singapore campus of a large public American university. I asked the interviewees to define and describe their exposure or use of experiential learning methods. I also asked them how they valued these experiences.
