According to a report by the National Foundation for American Policy, most immigrant entrepreneurs in the United States come from Asia, with India and China being the top two countries of origin.
Here are statistics on the top countries of origin for immigrant entrepreneurs in the U.S.:
India: Indian immigrants have founded more companies in the United States than immigrants from any other country. According to a report by the Kauffman Foundation, Indian immigrants founded 16% of all immigrant-founded startups between 2006 and 2012.
China: Chinese immigrants are the second-largest group of immigrant entrepreneurs in the U.S., with a significant presence in the technology and engineering sectors.
Korea: Korean immigrants are another significant group of entrepreneurs in the U.S., with a strong presence in the technology and manufacturing sectors.
Vietnam: Vietnamese immigrants are a growing group of entrepreneurs in the U.S., with a particular focus on the restaurant and hospitality industries. According to the report, Vietnamese immigrants are another large group of Asian immigrants in the U.S.
“Immigrants found more firms in every bucket. They create more firms, they create more small firms, they create more medium-size firms, they create more large firms. It’s not the case that immigrants only create growth-oriented startups. It’s not the case they just create subsistence businesses. They create all kinds of businesses, and they create a lot of them.” - Pierre Azoulay, an economist at the MIT Sloan School of Management
In addition, the report also cites Canada and the Middle East as having large groups of immigrant entrepreneurs in the United States.
Canada: Although often overlooked, Canadian immigrants are also a significant group of entrepreneurs in the U.S., with a particular focus on software development and biotechnology.
Middle East: Immigrants from various Middle Eastern countries, including Israel, Turkey, Iran, and Lebanon, are also a significant group of entrepreneurs in the U.S. According to the report, Middle Eastern immigrants are particularly active in the healthcare and technology sectors, and have a strong presence in states like California, New York, and Texas.
Overall, immigrant entrepreneurs from these countries and regions are an essential driving force behind the growth of startups and small businesses in the United States.
