Repetition, Repetition, Repetition
Joe Bezotte
A training company focused on training hard, Training right, and training often.
In most of our courses, where it is applicable, we harp on repetition and try to provide as much time for quality repetition as possible.
But why is repetition so important?
Many people believe repetition creates "muscle memory". I would say that is a mislabeling. When you consistently repeat motions and actions you are actually creating (if it’s a new action or motion) a neural pathway. if it’s a known action or motion, something you have done before, it is simply reinforcing a neural pathway that was already there.
You can compare these neural pathways to paths, roads, highways and superhighways. Once you begin repetition of a new motion or action, the "path" is formed. As you begin repeating, hopefully in a perfect and consistent manner, those paths become roads, then highways, then superhighways.
Remember this. When you watch professionals working in their specialties, making it look so easy and effortless, it’s not because they possess some magic secret. These professionals have simply mastered the basics and fundamentals. How did they do that? Yes, through practice, through repetition, and more repetition!
