Repair or Replace?

Repair or Replace?

The world seems to be moving faster than ever, and I was talking with a friend about how we’ve stopped fixing things and just replace them now—even in our careers. It made us think about what really matters when everything around us is constantly shifting. We landed on a few thoughts that felt worth sharing.

Flexibility is key. Nothing stays the same for long, so being able to roll with the changes is more important than ever. If we can stay open to new ideas and ways of doing things, we’ll be ready for whatever comes next. Instead of seeing change as something to fear, we should embrace it as a chance to grow.

Stick to the basics. While technical skills can change with the times, core skills like good communication, problem-solving, and leadership are always in demand. These are the skills that keep us grounded and valuable, no matter how the specifics of our jobs evolve.

Nurture your relationships. In a world where things (and sometimes people) are constantly being replaced, relationships stand the test of time. Stay connected with your colleagues, maintain those professional friendships, and keep reaching out. Your network is what can help open doors and offer insights when you need them most.

So, by staying adaptable, holding onto those timeless skills, and keeping our networks strong, we can continue to bring value—even in a world that’s always looking for the next new thing.
