REP 2021 CWRU

Space Engineering Intern @ Northrop Grumman | Certified SolidWorks Associate with GD&T Experience
Today I am writing to share my experiences after my first week as an intern through the REP program. The REP program matched me with Tiffany McNamara as part of the Veale Institute Fellowship program to provide opportunities for professional experience amidst the ongoing pandemic. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and excited to share my experiences with my network! I am a second year student studying mechanical engineering and have had the desire to extend my knowledge of entrepreneurship. The project that I am focusing on is assessing the need for design and engineering services and on researching the cost of launching and maintaining such a program in terms of funding and revenue potential. Sears think[box] is frequently asked to provide design services for entrepreneurs and researchers and there simply is not enough capacity on the staff - in terms of people and expertise - to provide those services. We believe that this need could be filled by launching a design services program at think[box] that would provide engineering help for the first design and prototype. We believe there is a need for “design and engineering services” for both Case and community users. For example, a former ThinkEnergy Fellow said that the project she was working on would have been farther along had her team been able to outsource the design and prototyping of their project. Our first goal is to research if there is a need for these services. In my first week, I have been meeting with Professor McNamara and discussing the tasks for researching the need for these services, which include interviews and surveys. I am looking forward to sharing my experience under the REP program for this fall semester of 2021.?
