Reorgs! Pro Tips for Leading the Toughest Organization Changes - Insights from Angela Courtney's Webinar

On September 3, 2024, ACMP members had the opportunity to attend the Reorgs! Pro Tips for Leading the Toughest Organization Changes webinar that was presented by Dr. Angela Courtney, CCMP, author, and a member of the Change Management leadership team of North Highland, an international management consulting firm that specializes in transformation.

Angela provided guidance for supporting ROAR – Reorganizations, Acquisitions/Integrations, and Relocations, by leveraging behavioral science in addition to traditional change management. Behavioral science is the study of what humans do and why we do those things, and how people respond to change. Here is a summary of her Pro CM tips:

• Choice Overload Effect: The more limited the options, the easier (and quicker) it becomes to make the choice.
• The IKEA Effect: When we have contributed to the making of something it is much more valuable to us.
• The Humour Effect: People remember information more easily when they find it amusing.
• Narrative Bias: Conveying important messages through stories makes them more convincing, and easier to remember and recall.
• Chunking: Smaller, individual tasks are perceived as less daunting than big ones with multiple stages.
