REOPENING: Where do I want to be in five years?

Welcome back to the REOPENING series . We’re in the home stretch - on the fifth of SIX BIG QUESTIONS about what we want from work. For a year-and-a-half, we’ve been planning in one-week increments, sometimes one-hour increments.?

That served us well as we navigated the worst of the pandemic. But now? Now we can plan and dream and scheme again. We can make a legit, optimistic five year plan.

Today is about remembering how to do that. It’s going to be fun. Expansive. And dare I say, entertaining? Today’s guest is an actor and writer with a bright view of the future: the actor, Matthew McConaughey. You've probably seen him in a film or two (or three or four).

I specifically wanted to talk to Matthew about making robust longterm goals for two reasons. One, taking the long view demands self-reflection. Last year Matthew published a memoir, Greenlights, in which he reveals himself to be a guy who has made a discipline of it. Long before quarantine, he stepped out of his Hollywood life regularly to reflect.

The second reason I wanted to talk to Matthew is his innate confidence. He possesses a foundational belief that he can pull anything off. I wish I thought this way by default. I don’t. Do you?

This week, Matthew will show us how. You can?find the?episode here , or listen directly below:

???Homework Assignment: Imagine your future

This week for our assignment, I want you to describe the BEST version you can imagine of your life in five years. If it's helpful, revisit our episode with Debbie Millman from January of this year. She really does think this tool is magic. Get it all down, right to the last detail, no matter how unlikely it seems to actually occur. Then, join us for Office Hours on Wednesday to discuss . We’ll see you at 3pm EST as usual. You can find us on the LinkedIn News Page or email [email protected].

I love these last two points Jessi! Relationship to self and moving towards what you want even if you "fail". I've been finding "failure" is just an outcome we didn't like, so it's more like an experiment in getting it right.

Can you explain to a non-native speaker what "unbrand to rebrand" means? ELI5 is okay too.
