Renovation of 1.5 km potable water pipeline for Rio Tinto
Situation
Cape Lambert is a port facility operated by Rio Tinto in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, approximately 1,600 kilometres north of Perth. It is one of the sea ports for exporting iron ore with an annual capacity to handle 80 million tons.
The existing HDPE pipeline runs along and under one of the principal roads into the main port, thus dig-and-replace was no option as the port facility operates 24/7. A part of the pipeline also passes through areas of cultural heritage sensitivity, where digging is not permitted. The installation of the 1,550 m Primus Liner DN 150 was performed in 3 sections and could be completed within four working days.
Primus Line? is a flexible sliplining solution for the trenchless rehabilitation of pressure pipes. The system consists of a flexible Kevlar? reinforced liner and specially developed end fittings. Primus Line? is not bonded to the host pipe and is self-supporting. An annulus remains between Primus Line? and the host pipe. Developed by experienced engineers, the system is suitable for different media as well as various application needs and has already proven itself in numerous projects in over 40 countries worldwide.
