A Renewed Astrodome Should Serve the Community

WRT the Astrodome's purpose: If stakeholders & advocates can agree that the Dome should be a place for public celebrations, events, entertainment & recreation, all can move on to getting it done right.

Within a public access frame, there are still lots of different directions you could go: green park, active play zone, art park, water park, museum campus, amusement park. Or make a METAPARK that's a bit of everything.

I'm here to urge you to consider some things you can ALSO do in the Dome that are aligned with the frame of public access but also aligned with the larger mission and needs of not only Harris County, but also the Texans, HLSR, and SportsCorp.

Within the frame of public access, you can also create ALL of the following:

A META-COMMUNITY CENTER for Pct 1 but ALSO for all of Harris County, with programming from established HC departments & partners including PARKS & REC, HCPL, Education, Sustainability, etc.

A TOURISM EXPERIENCE that produces robust ROI for the county & local businesses.

A STREET-LEVEL EXHIBITION-EVENT FLOOR for OTC, RODEO, community market days, cultural festivals, charity balls & more.

A SHOWCASE for HC history, industry, & diverse communities.

An ART PARK

You can do ALL OF THIS because the building is big enough to hold it all.

I hope that it's as plain to others as it is to me that all these initiatives overlap and intertwine.
