RENEWABLE SOUCRES AN OPTION FOR UAV SEGMENT STARTUPS / LARGE ORGANIZATIONS
The word "Renewable" is nothing but "Regenerative". Humanity's biggest challenge since from the discovery of Fossil fuels was its non re-generative ,which is nothing but ability of not being replenished or regenerated from original form .Lets keep non renewable sources a side as today most of 95 % of UAV of medium and large category uses IC and combustible fuels for performing operations in any segment . In this article let us explore the common trend in renewable sources , its advantages and explore potential in UAV segment and exploration of possible technology breakthrough in near future .
The most common trend in current world scenario is either usage of solar and wind energy as source to power or meet demand requirement . If we analyze some of the reports and publicized sources ,The market trends showcase that solar is widely being used in power generation which occupies 58 percent , Usage in agriculture sector nearly 22 percent ,Usage in home applications rooftop powerpack nearly 18 percent and finally transportation sector that include land and air contributes 1 percent respectively and when it comes to air and land transportation 99.6 % being used by solar and it seems there are very slim chances wind being used .
Well by looking at the data being provided by classified market trends , Show clear domination of solar as because the photovoltaic technology is available , research and development is incrementing , More sales and customers that lead to more efforts put in production that in turn increase focus of companies and startups to engage in such customer need based on market analysis .But here my focus is towards having these advantages insights of solar in UAV segment and disadvantages of such technology in UAV segment and some qualitative insights about usage of wind power for UAV segment .
When it comes to UAV segment , The more usage and demand for upper boundaries such as requirement to transfer logistics for long distances and for uplifting heavy payloads we require medium - large UAV'S that in-turn it require more energy density and power requirement and this cannot be fulfilled by traditional battery powerpack as there is issue with storage and endurance requirement .
Here we use solar cells a mini scaled versions that can be attached to UAV which needs some modification in order that payloads will not be compromised and the cell sheet may not be damaged such that it will take direct sources from sunlight even while performing operations that in-turn enhances passive storage capability and also endurance of UAV'S . but the problem of having such is that complexity of developing such cell that suits and fit in those categories require expertise , space issue , weather issue , power loss /energy loss according to second law of thermodynamics etc.
Here my idea of using wind source(Vayu) as tool to gather the issue . The idea is to develop a mechanism that involves inhaling the air while flying and this inhaled air will be transferred to drone motor and dynamic controls and this will be saved in battery or this UAV will be powered and stay for long time . This in turn makes this energy better option than usage of combustible fuels for large UAV .

Well in order to achieve this there will be compromises in aerodynamic and elastic design that includes some changes in structural and avionics arrangement .
I conclude by texting to say that Potential usage of UAV in transportation , logistics and customer needed platforms , UAV'S can be cheaper for organizations and companies in order to focus on maintenance and purchasing business costs , The future of UAV segment is "bright as sunshine in the east" , but special technologies need to be inducted and this is unique opportunity for entrepreneurs and large organizations ..

6 个月Karthikeya… I have gone through your write up. While the idea is noble to supplement the solar powered/supplemented UAV with some kind of wind driven turbine but the challenges are many… the ultimate cost is on the payload. I suggested study the challenges being addressed in the High Altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS) program globally
