Romanian Renewable Energy Summit 2024

This week, I had the honor of speaking at the Romanian Renewable Energy Summit 2024. In my intervention, I emphasized the critical need for reforms to support Romania's transition to green energy.

Given our country's unique characteristics, I emphasized the importance of strategically allocating European funds to address our real needs, maximizing the impact and efficiency of investments.

The recently released report by Mario Draghi on European competitiveness underscores the necessity for a profound transformation in the energy sector, with a strong emphasis on reducing energy prices in the EU.

The integrated plan for decarbonization and competitiveness focuses on strengthening energy security, reducing dependencies, and fostering innovation – fundamental measures to ensure the competitiveness of European industry and a sustainable future.

High-Level Diplomatic Dialogue

I had the honor of meeting Ambassador Charles E. Cobb, a distinguished figure whose career spans diplomacy, business, and civic leadership. Ambassador Cobb served as U.S. Ambassador to Iceland during the George H.W. Bush administration, following a notable tenure as undersecretary and assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce under President Reagan.

It was an exceptional meeting alongside the Head of the European Commission Representation in Romania, Iulia Ramona Chiriac , another influential figure in diplomacy and European affairs. Together, we discussed the opportunities for international collaboration and the importance of fostering strong partnerships for sustainable development, both in Europe and beyond.

Such meetings inspire and motivate me to continue actively contributing to building bridges of dialogue and cooperation.

The week concluded with a technical meeting with representatives from the European Investment Bank (EIB) , an essential partner in managing and implementing European funds. Such meetings play a crucial role in ensuring that Romania can access and utilize EU funds efficiently, supporting key investment projects that drive economic growth and development.

The collaboration between the Ministerul Investi?iilor ?i Proiectelor Europene and the European Investment Bank (EIB) is vital for aligning strategic priorities, improving project financing, and ensuring that the funds allocated through programs such as the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) are directed towards impactful and sustainable projects.
