Renato Conde presented The Evolution of the Car Park and Future Trends

Car parking is the basic facility that provides convenient and secure space to cars for customers who intend to visit some place. It is a consequence of the car rapid development, over the 20th century, from an expensive toy for rich into the "wonderful" standard for private transportation in most countries.

During his lecture at the 2nd Annual Smart Parking UAE 2016, in the month of September in Dubai, Renato has described the commercial “driving” forces behind the origin of this architectural typology, its technical implications and the impact on the urban environment, to than study how the pressure from the society for more livable and walkable communities, as well as the need for technical and financial efficiency, has encouraged many designers, developers and governments to look for new approaches.

Renato presented a handful of best practice built car parks, in the last decade around the world, where stakeholders have explored at least one of the following strategies to achieve higher degree of significance for their car park among the broad society.

• Incorporating a Mix of Uses
• Adding Cultural (Architectural) Value
• Adding Value to Corporations
• Interacting to City’s (Intelligent) Infrastructure
• Incorporating Public Realm

We hope the conclusions taken during the event in Dubai can contribute to the coming editions in Riyadh and Doha, and to future forums about smart transportation and infrastructure within our cities.
