Renaissance
We’re just now coming down from the high that was the Luxury Home and Design Show at BC Place! It opened on Thursday evening with a flourish, and ran through to Sunday. I almost lost my voice due to all the great conversations with people fascinated by the fine art of stained glass. We also met many talented artisans, designers, architects and students with whom we had really interesting conversations regarding the joys and challenges of creating art in many different mediums and applications.
We unveiled the piece we created specifically for the show, entitled “Renaissance”. Inspired by the art of the Renaissance period, in particular Michelangelo’s sketch The Tree of Life, this expressive piece reflects a time of curiosity about the natural world and a fascination with geometry, astronomy and symbolism. We used intricate glass painting and etching techniques on European mouth-blown glass to create highly detailed flowers, leaves, bees and butterflies, all of which have further symbolic meaning and which together are reflective of the best qualities of humanity.
We would also like to give a special mention to the talented husband and wife teams we met there - Maurice and Karen of Karice Lighting , Andreas and Naomi of the Ancient Art of Stone and Joel and Catherine of Bullnose Tile & Stone. It was great to discover that we are not alone in the roller coaster ride that is running a creative business with your spouse!
