Removing barriers between credit unions and consumers

Removing barriers between credit unions and consumers

Credit unions have earned the ability to serve their members through decades of putting people first. Today’s environment means not only supporting pro-credit union policies, but also fighting back against policies that put barriers between consumers and credit unions.??

Banks and other for-profit entities can’t compete with the credit union difference, so they’ll use any opportunity to attack what we do.??

We believe the changes to NCUA’s call report requiring reporting of certain fee income is a policy that can ultimately be used against credit unions.??

We’ve called on NCUA to not publicly disclose this data? – we're concerned doing so will provide additional opportunities for cherry-picked data to be used against credit unions.??

Many of your members rely on overdraft services, which is why you offer these services and they sign up for them. This is the latest in efforts to jeopardize that lifeline, ultimately making consumers more financially vulnerable.??

Congress remains in recess next week—use the time to connect with your legislators back home and share the credit union difference.?

America’s Credit Unions will remain vigilant and fight back against policies that will negatively impact how you serve your members.??

Foundation Executive Director Gigi Hyland announces retirement?

Please join me in sending best wishes to National Credit Union Foundation Executive Director Gigi Hyland, who announced she will retire at the end of this year. Gigi has been a trailblazing advocate for credit unions for more than three decades, and her tenure at the Foundation has brought incredible growth.

We’ve collaborated on everything from the system-wide push to improve financial well-being, the CUFinHealth Fund, responses to natural disasters impacting credit unions, co-founding the Credit Union DEI Collective, and so much more. Congratulations Gigi, and thank you for being an amazing friend and partner. ?

Relentless advocacy for the credit union industry:

  • We raised concerns with the CFPB’s broad unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices (UDAAP) interpretation in its proposal on instantly declined transaction fees.
  • We urged the CFPB to retract its auto loan data collection proposal as it lacks legal authority to collect the information.
  • The Cybersecurity and Information Sharing Agency released its proposal on cyber incident reporting requirements under the Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act.
