Remote Working Will Fail

I truly enjoy working from home. Having had some of the worst commutes imaginable I love the extra "me-time" I get on most days. Working in international sports has meant many of my work days have been from other people's offices, on-site at sporting events, hotel lobbies and airport lounges.
So why do I think remote working will fail?
First off, I cannot think of any great product or service that was developed by a remote team. I have always believed in the power of the team and I strongly believe coming together, working together is infinitely more powerful than working alone or simply connected by Zoom.
Second, when you change jobs or even careers and work from home you cannot easily blame your boss (normally reason #1) or your commute (reason #2) or even your work environment (reason #3). So it will mean workers will need to take a deep look at themselves for any shortcomings in any role. My experience is that has not been the norm to date.
Thirdly, when clients or customers work with teams they often site the primary reason they like working with XYZ company is, "I really like working with this team." Talking with colleagues in multiple sectors I don't think that phrase is as prevalent under the current remote working phase.

Finally, I recently had our regular working together days with my own remote team and separately with a team where I did not know one person beforehand. I recognise that every time my own team comes together our ideas, execution and laughter greatly increased. That's a great feeling you don't get working remotely.
But I also noticed this new team I recently joined of roughly 40 people that had never previously met were able to advance a very complex idea in one half-day much much faster than if we had been apart.
In each instance we essentially 10x the results simply because we were together as a team. Yes I love working from home, but I also can recognise the power of working face-to-face with colleagues as a team to drive more meaningful results.
I know it's not a popular statement, saying remote working will fail, but I call them as I see them!

1 年We’ve had endless debate on this recently but I truly believe we need to be back together in offices to enable creativity and collaboration. Times have changed though and expectations have changed so getting a fine balance is the key to success ?? ??

1 å¹´Mixed approach is the future, for sure. We need to work together in one space to remember how good it feels.?I am loving it back to the office, so much time saved.
