The Remote Work Weekly #7
Welcome to the seventh edition of The Remote Work Weekly!
If you are new here, my name is Amr, and I write this weekly newsletter to keep you updated on the latest in the world of remote work, including news, emerging trends, insights, studies, and more. I also cover related topics such as freelancing, coliving, coworking, digital nomad trends, and more. So, feel free to subscribe so you don't miss an update.
In this week's edition, we review into the news about landlords in the UK prohibiting tenants from working from home, and revisit data suggesting a decline in remote jobs, possibly signaling the end of the remote work peak era. With all this uncertainty in the remote job market, we're featuring an AI job search assistant as our Tool of the Week.
Landlords Prohibit Tenants from Working from Home?
Sounds strange? I thought so, too.?
A report on Yahoo U.K. covered the news of increasing shared rental ads with the requirement that potential tenants must not work from home. The article also cited an investigation by the Independent claiming that such ads are not uncommon.
It is understandable that, for legal reasons, landlords might be skeptical that tenants may run businesses from their properties; however, the reason for the increase of such requirements regarding freelancing or remote working remains unclear. There could be more to this story since an organization named Generation Renter, which stands against unfair evictions, has called for imposing regulations to stop this practice.
Are we Past the Peak of the Remote Work Era?
Actually, I borrowed this title from an article published on hub.stacker. I'm not trying to copy someone else's content, but I have been thinking the same recently. All the data points to a decrease in companies' openness to offer fully remote jobs, with a noticeable shift in the global company cultures that support rather a more flexible work arrangements.?
In the #4th edition of this newsletter, we mentioned LinkedIn's Global State of Remote and Hybrid Work report, which showed that the number of available remote positions has dropped by 23% compared to the previous year. Also, in the 5th edition, we reviewed a survey by ResumeBuilder revealing that 25% of U.S. companies plan increase work from office days next year.?
Despite this negative outlook of the data, I see that the remote work era is far from over. It just looks like the post-2020 experiments with remote work are coming to an end, and organizations are adopting more firm and sustainable policies regarding the degree of flexibility in their work cultures.

Tool of the Week: Job Search A.I. Copilot
With the reports on the decrease in available remote/hybrid jobs, job search is becoming even more difficult. This week's featured tool is an AI job search assistant. It won't surely guarantee success in your job search efforts, but it will undoubtedly be of great help in increasing your job search effeciency.
After creating a new account, you will be prompted to provide general information about the position you seek, locations and preferred work setup, your career goals, and upload your resume. Then, Jobright will analyze your resume and provide a list of jobs that match your resume with a job match score.
In addition to job match, Jobright offers more features like customizing your resume for a selected job, giving tips related to specific applications, and helping write a cover letter. It is not a job board, so all the jobs displayed on Jobright are sourced from other websites. As a result, after customizing your resume and picking a job you might be interested in, you will be directed to the original post's website to finish your application.
Jobright is now free to use, so it is an excellent chance to try it and explore its features.
